YUCK- A SPIDER!

Hands-on exhibition for Children from 3 years in cooperation with Museum für Naturkunde Berlin
20.02.2020 until 14.06.2020
Patron: Tomás Saraceno, Performance- and installation artist

HUCH - EINE SPINNE!

Numerous scary stories and myths are entwined around arachnids. Many individuals are scared when they see a spider.

In the new exhibition of the KinderKünsteZentrum you can experience how much fun it is to take a closer look at these wonderful master builders with eight legs.

Over 60 kids of five Berlin day-care centers have over the last few months explored the topic of spiders curiously together with artists and without any fear. They were at the studio of Tomás Saraceno, for whose artistic works spider webs play an important role, observed spiders in the cellar of the day care center, and visited the expert Anja Friederichs in the Museum of Natural History. They built a spiderweb house and cocooned spider webs. Building up on the works of these children, the exhibition was created with a lot of hands-on activities:

Examine in our laboratory the spider’s skin. Create your own spider costume and move like a spider with eight legs and eight eyes! In a movie, young researchers are reporting on their excursion into the world of spiders. In our paper theater you can play and create your own stories – or spinning a spiderweb out of recycled thread.

Huch- Eine Spinne! Kinder untersuchen Spinnen

The exhibition connects in a playful manner the arts and biology. Where there are often only fears, it wants to awake the interest and fascination of the children and their families for these little animals and sensitize them for the importance of them for the environment and biodiversity.
